The Rewards of Mentoring

Helping business grow in the Caribbean

I am honoured and humbled to have been chosen as a mentor as part of the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship scheme in the Caribbean.

I will be working closely with Allison Harrison, as she grows her business, Factory75 - a video production and motion picture house located in Kingston, Jamaica.

I had the pleasure of working with Allison on a recent trip to Jamaica and her enthusiasm and love for film making was evident as she accompanied us across the island providing second camera services and local guidance.

There is nothing more rewarding than being able to share experiences and knowledge with someone else, and witness first hand how it can help grow their own business.  But more than that, it also has a massive positive effect on our own business, the team at Blue Juice can really feel  proud that they are helping contribute to the success of another company, thousands of miles away.

I will be working closely with Allison over the coming months and will provide updates here on our blog.

Filming at The Branson Centre for Entrepreneurship

On location in the Caribbean

Earlier this month we spent time in Jamaica filming across the island for the Branson Centre of Entrapenueurship.

The Branson Centre’s vision is to support the development of small and growing businesses to create jobs and contribute to the economy in the Caribbean region. The Centre is a hub for aspiring entrepreneurs, offering practical business skills, access to coaches and mentors to share their experiences, professional services to help build strong businesses, exposure to networks and finance and investment opportunities.

The centre was opened in September 2011 by Sir Richard Branson, and we were tasked with travelling around the island visitng the Entrapenueurs who had already been through and benefited from the support offered by the Centre and capturing their stories and experiences. As well as spending time in Kingston and Montego Bay we spent two days based at the Centre, filming with the latest cohorts and interviewing Amanda Wills (Virgin Holidays MD) and Andrew Pervis (Virgin Unite)

The trip was a fantastic opportunity to experience the lives and culture in Jamaica, from the hustle and bustle of downtown Kingston to the peace and Tranquility of Mount Edge, high in the Blue Mountains.  We met some truly inspirational people, and as businesses owners and Entrapenueurs ourselves were fascinated that many of the issues and challenges we face in the UK growing businesses are the same in the Caribbean and the world over. We will post the various videos from our trip as they are released along with some great images capturing our time on the island!

Rowing the Atlantic!

Team Atlantic Splash

OK, well lets clear something up first - its not actually us rowing the Atlantic, its the crazy guys over at Team Atlantic Splash that have signed up to a gruelling 3000 mile journey as part of the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge

Atlantic Splash is the story of five ordinary men taking on an extraordinary adventure. No top of the draw rowers, no seasoned ‘round the world’ adventurers, no incredible athletes, just a bunch of good friends from the South Coast of England.

Behind every great team is a fantastic support crew, and thats how we see ourselves! We are in the process of developing a few mobile applications that will help the team raise funds in the build up to the event, and then act as a real time tracking and communcation tool for when they set off on the 2nd December 2013...
